THE LAST VEGAS Debut Coming In April

With their much-buzzed-about single “I’m Bad” recently featured as the iTunes “Single of the Week” for February 17-23, THE LAST VEGAS have set April 14, 2009 as the release date for their new CD, the brazenly titled “Whatever Gets You Off” (Eleven Seven Music). The group was hand-picked by MÖTLEY CRÜE as part of Guitar Center’s On-Stage new music program.

Earning accolades from the press on the “Saints of Los Angeles 2009 Tour” with MÖTLEY CRÜE, HINDER and THEORY OF A DEADMAN, THE LAST VEGAS — cited last year by Spin as “Best Discovery” in the magazine’s SXSW 2008 coverage — recently took time out to shoot a video for “I’m Bad” in their Chicago hometown at the popular nightclub the Double Door. The track was inspired by “life, sex, and death,” reveals frontman Chad Cherry. “It was a culmination of what happened to a friend as well as various life experiences that I have been through,” he continues. “This song has great, sleazy riffs that have become part of our signature sound,” adds guitarist Adam Arling.

Not surprisingly for THE LAST VEGAS, things got a little wild on the set, as drummer Nate Arling explains: “We shot the video at the Double Door. I got attacked by a stripper in a bathroom stall and she started making out with me. That was the start of the day…”

THE LAST VEGAS — Adam Arling (guitar), Nate Arling (drums), Johnny Wator (guitar), Danny Smash (bass) and Chad Cherry (lead vocals) — recorded “Whatever Gets You Off” in Los Angeles with veteran rock producers DJ Ashba (SIXX: A.M., MÖTLEY CRÜE), Marti Frederiksen (AEROSMITH, MÖTLEY CRÜE, OZZY OSBOURNE) and Nikki Sixx of MÖTLEY CRÜE and SIXX: A.M. after being hand-picked by MÖTLEY CRÜE as part of Guitar Center’s On-Stage program. They were awarded a record and management deal, giving the band an unprecedented opportunity. In a recent interview with the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Nikki Sixx shared his thoughts about THE LAST VEGAS, noting: “They’re honest. They’re real. They’re not full of (expletive). They’re a real rock ‘n’ roll band.”

KISS To Play This Year’s VOODOO EXPERIENCE? New Album and Ace Frehley Gets a Little Help From Anthrax

According to WDSU.com, Voodoo Experience festival founder Steve Rehage has announced that he has booked many performers for this year’s event — which will take place the weekend of Oct. 30-Nov. 1 in New Orleans, Louisiana — including the rock band KISS.

Voodoo is an economic driver for New Orleans and is the flagship event for the city between Labor Day and Thanksgiving.

WDSU first broke the story last week that City Park was booked for Voodoo’s desired weekend. Organizers had moved the event — traditionally held in late October — to the last weekend of the month to coincide with Halloween, but prior bookings at the park made that impossible, park general manager Bob Becker said.

Festival founder Steve Rehage said he had agreed on the new dates with City Park officials, but Becker said several weddings were already booked that weekend.

Kiss To Finish New Album In July

Kiss bassist/vocalist Gene Simmons has told the Brazilian web site Comércio do Jahu that the band’s new album will be completed in July for a September release. According to Simmons, the group has already finished recording the vocals and guitar for four tracks, with the finished product expected to include between 12 and 15 songs. Simmons describes the album’s direction as the “classic Kiss sound,” not a million miles removed from the “Rock and Roll Over” LP but with a more modern production. The group’s first album since 1998’s “Psycho Circus” is being produced by Kiss guitarist/vocalist Paul Stanley and will contain “no rap or country,” Simmons said.

According to Amazon.com, Universal will release a new Kiss live album called “Authorized Bootleg - Nashville Municipal Auditorium 1998″ on May 26. No further details are currently available.

MINISTRY OVERCOMES PUNCTURED LUNGS, SEAGULL ATTACKS, AND POLICE ESCORTS TO ASSEMBLE ADIOS…PUTA MADRES 2-DVD SET

Hell Paso, TX - Monday, March 30, 2009 — While MINISTRY’s studio albums certainly show why the group is considered a stylistic trailblazer, it is on the concert stage that Ministry takes things to a whole other level. And as evidenced by fans that packed venues to catch the group one final time on their worldwide “C U LaTouR 2008,” the Al Jourgensen-led band was slaying crowds up ’til the final note. For those unenlightened souls who don’t take our word on this, feast your eyes and ears on the new double-disc DVD set, Adios…Puta Madres, to be released on May 26 in North America, on May 22 in Europe, and accompanies the audio release of the same title, out tomorrow, March 31, 2009, on Jourgensen’s own 13th Planet Records.

The double DVD disc Adios…Puta Madres is distinguished by secondary titles: the Adios…Puta Madres/En Vivo? disc contains 15 live performance tracks, and Adios…Puta Madres/Fuchi Requiem is a 45-minute on-the-road “rockumentary” that follows the band from rehearsals all the way to their final shows in Europe. Backstage bits, interviews, and live footage abound, while the DVD contains some extra tracks not on the live CD.

While there were no arrests on Ministry’s final jaunt (unlike previous tours), it was certainly not a tour for the squeamish - especially if you were a band member. “Highlights” included guitarist Tommy Victor falling down stairs in Calgary, and breaking two ribs and puncturing his lung, Al enduring a vicious seagull attack outside a Swedish hotel (the seagull stole his sandwich and devoured it mid-air), and the group’s bus breaking down at 6:00am on a French highway, resulting in a multi-police vehicle escort to a safe haven (the nearest gas station). But according to Jourgensen, he got to experience an unforgettable moment each and every night. “This whole tour, all I really gave a fuck about was ‘the balloon drop’ at the end of the night. I was like a little five-year-old kid, like ‘Hey, when do the birthday cake and clowns come out?’ I LOVED that part of the show!”

Perhaps another deciding factor in what made these last Ministry shows so special was that the band members were like peas in a pod together. “Ministry during the ’90s - everyone hated each other. After the shows, everyone would scatter and go to different hotels, different this and that. Even on the bus, some people weren’t allowed to go to the front section, some people couldn’t go to the back section. The only time we’d ever talk, I’d hand out the setlist five minutes before the set, and that was it - then we’d scatter. But this last line-up was just like a band of pirates going down the road.

For Ministry’s 2006 “MasterBaTouR,” Prong’s Tommy Victor and Killing Joke bassist Paul Raven joined Jourgensen in support of the Rio Grande Blood release, which they also helped to pen. Al explains, “We were all set to do that same line-up, outside of Joey Jordison who had prior commitments with Slipknot, so we borrowed AAron Rossi from Prong. But then Raven, our bass player, died. We were desperate, and instead of having auditions, we were just like, ‘Let’s call up Tony [Campos]!’ It was fortunate that the Static-X schedule wasn’t going to conflict with the final Ministry tour. And then of course, John Bechdel had been with us for a couple of tours, and Sin [Quirin] was with us for the last Revolting Cocks tour and album, and also wrote The Last Sucker with me.”

The result is a set that is sure to be an audio/video treat for fans, as nothing but state-of-the-art equipment was utilized during its recording. The group traveled with two high-end Digitech boards - one for on-stage monitors and one for the front of house. For the front of house rig, a 56-channel ProTools rig was added, so the entire show could be recorded in 56 channels and put into hard drives. That way, Al could mix it in the studio after the tour, which is precisely what he did…after all the smoke and tinnitus had cleared.

With Ministry now laid to rest, Jourgensen refuses to sit idle, as he already has his foreseeable future booked solid with studio work. “Even though the new RevCo just hit stores, we’re almost done with the next RevCo album. We’re trying to get it done before the guys go on tour in September to support Sex-O-Olympic-O on the ‘LuBricaTouR’ - we plan on being done with that album in August. Then I’m producing the new Prong album for September/October. After that, I’m doing a Lard project with Jello Biafra - we’re resurrecting that - in November/December. And then in January/February, I’m doing a project with Joey Jordison called J vs. J. I’m booked for the next year, basically.”

And finally, how does Jourgensen compare the CD and DVD versions of Adios…Puta Madres to previous Ministry discs? “Since I’ve lived it, I never listened to it. So it’s got to be up to you guys to decide that.”

JUDAS PRIEST: Performing Entire ‘British Steel’ Album Is ‘A Dream Come Tru

For the past few years, JUDAS PRIEST has unquestionably ruled the U.S. summer concert scene, having been a part of both the top-grossing Ozzfest and Metal Masters tours. And this summer, PRIEST has done it again, by uniting with WHITESNAKE for a series of stateside shows. PRIEST will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the classic album “British Steel” (it was originally issued in April 1980), by performing the album in its entirety for the very first time ever live on stage! In addition they will be playing some old favorites.

Along with 1982’s “Screaming for Vengeance” and 1990’s “Painkiller”, “British Steel” has long been considered one of metal’s all-time classics. It was with this release that PRIEST truly broke through to the masses, with a pair of tracks that have become fixtures on rock radio — the enduring anthems “Breaking the Law” and “Living After Midnight”. But like all classic albums, there is not a single weak track detected on “British Steel”, as evidenced by such standouts as the perennial concert highlight, “Metal Gods”, as well as “Rapid Fire”, “Grinder”, “United” and “The Rage”, among others.

Produced by Tom Allom, “British Steel” was recorded at the Tittenhurst Park in England — which is a mansion owned at the time by former THE BEATLES member Ringo Starr, and previously owned by John Lennon and Yoko Ono. In 2001, the album was remastered and reissued with extra bonus tracks, and also was the subject of an in-depth study as part of the popular “Classic Albums” DVD series.

“British Steel” original track listing:

01. Rapid Fire
02. Metal Gods
03. Breaking the Law
04. Grinder
05. United
06. You Don’t Have to Be Old to Be Wise
07. Living After Midnight
08. The Rage
09. Steeler

JUDAS PRIEST — singer Rob Halford, guitarists Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing, bassist Ian Hill, and drummer Scott Travis — remain as popular as ever to this day, confirmed once and for all upon the release of 2008’s “Nostradamus”, which became their highest-ever charting album in the U.S. Two years earlier, the group was the inaugural inductees into the “VH1 Rock Honors”. The forthcoming summer dates with WHITESNAKE are surely not to be missed by metalheads from coast to coast, especially now that fans will be reintroduced up close and personal to the mighty “British Steel”.

Along with PRIEST, WHITESNAKE is certainly one of the most instantly identifiable names in all of hard rock. PRIEST and WHITESNAKE toured together in 2005 (in Mexico and South America), resulting in such a well-received and great package that since then, both groups have been planning to work together again. This summer, U.S. fans will finally get their wish.

“The opportunity to perform live on stage in its entirety the whole of ‘British Steel’ is a dream come true for all of us! We’re really excited and looking forward to presenting the album live on stage. Fans will be able to enjoy a taste of true heavy metal when it was in its early, raw state!” said the group in a statement. “Plus, we will of course be throwing in a few other PRIEST classics!”

When I play with Chickenfoot, I want to give them more all the time, and I don’t hold anything back. I think the rest of the guys feel the same way.”

“Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers is from Detroit and he can play the hell out of funk, but he’s a rocker,” says Sammy Hagar. “He plays hard and he’s balanced. Chickenfoot wouldn’t exist without his groove.”
