AC/DC Announce Rarities Box Set Housed In Working Guitar Amp

Sometimes rumors do turn out to be true. A few weeks back, Classic Rock reported on a rumor that AC/DC were planning to release a massive box set housed in a playable guitar amplifier case. Then last week the band launched a tease website where they promised an exciting announcement. We now know what that is and it IS a massive box set housed in a playable guitar amplifier case. The $199 (plus shipping) AC/DC Backtracks box set includes 3 CDs, 2 DVDs, an LP and more. Here is the official description:

The comprehensive collection of the band’s studio and live rarities together in one place, remastered to sound better than ever (many on CD for the first time), on 3 CDs and 1 LP. 2 DVDs brings “Family Jewels” up to date plus the entire 2003 Circus Krone gig. A 164 page hard-cover book, collectible merchandise reproductions, and a working guitar amp make this a must-have for true AC/DC fans. Ships by 11/9/2009.

The 12″x12″x4″ (30cm*30cm*10cm) exterior box is designed to resemble a vintage AC/DC guitar amp – complete with the original logo that was spray-painted onto the rear of Angus and Malcolm’s speaker cabinets in 1975. The “head” of the amp has a handle that lifts the top off to reveal the contents housed within. Oh yeah, the head is also a WORKING GUITAR AMPLIFIER! That’s right, one watt of pure AC/DC makes this box a truly unique collector’s item. You can PLAY the box set while LISTENING TO the box set!

CD 1 – Studio Rarities: This CD, for the first time, collects AC/DC’s studio rarities, many on CD for the first time. These are all of the songs that the band recorded throughout their career that appeared on Australian-only LP releases, movie soundtracks, 7″ and 12″ single releases, and CD “tour editions”, etc. 12 of the 18 tracks are completely unique songs that have all been remastered to match the unparalleled sound quality of the rest of the Columbia AC/DC catalog reissues. The other 6 tracks are the original versions of classic AC/DC songs previously only available on the original Australian albums. Some restore seconds to the original fades, others restore guitar solos and choruses. All are highly sought-after collectibles and have never sounded this good!

CDs 2 & 3 – Live Rarities: Like CD 1, this is a collection of the band’s live rarities from singles, CD pros, compilations and other oddities. All have been remastered from original sources for optimum sound quality.

DVD 1: “Family Jewels” Disc 3: Picking up where the original 2DVD “Family Jewels” set leaves off (1991), Family Jewels Disc Three begins with “Big Gun” the theme song to the motion picture “Last Action Hero” – itself a rarity on CD 1 – the first time on any AC/DC album! You also get all three music videos from the Ballbreaker album, three from Stiff Upper Lip and the most recent clips for “Rock N Roll Train” and “Anything Goes” from the #1 album Black Ice. But there’s more! Several clips from the original Family Jewels set actually had more than one promotional clip. Here are the alternate versions of those classic videos – all on DVD for the first time.

DVD 2: “Live At The Circus Krone” 2003: 2003 was a banner year for AC/DC. From their induction into the Rock AND Roll Hall Of Fame to massive European dates with the Rolling Stones, the band made several high-profile public appearances (including the SARS concert in Toronto for 200,000!). One run of shows found the band returning to their roots – playing clubs and theaters where they thrilled fans with sweaty, stripped-down shows and even throwing in some rarities they hadn’t played in years. This show from Munich, Germany is the epitome of an “inside” look at how powerful the AC/DC show is – without all the bells and whistles of the big arena and stadium shows (well, they did bring the cannons…).

164 Page Coffee Table Book: 164 pages of rare and unseen photos spanning 1974-2009 plus full-size re-prints of original press releases, tour itineraries, tour books, test pressing labels, advertisements and much more. A real history of the band from the inside out. Rare photography includes never-before-seen shots of the band recording at the Albert Music studio on King Street in Sydney with legendary producers Harry Vanda and George Young in 1977. Also tons of unpublished live shots from all over the world

Rarities 180 Gram LP: The 12 unique studio rarities from CD 1 presented on 180 gram audiophile vinyl, mastered specifically for LP. A classic album in its own right!

Sid Vicious Documentary Coming

Courtney and Kurt

Odeon Entertainment and MVD Visual are proud to announce the release of Sid! By Those Who Really Knew Him on November 17th in North America.

This package, the first intimate full-length 80 minute documentary on Sid’s life, marks 30 years since his death from a heroin overdose (he was just 21 years old). Many of those closest to Sid speak for the very first time about this true punk icon who burned out, but never sold out.

This brand new documentary, in association with ITN Archive, charts the fall and rise of Sid Vicious from punk’s hero to society’s cultural icon of the twentieth century.

Sid’s short and controversial life is profiled with interviews from Jah Wobble (childhood friend, founder PIL), Steve Severin (Siouxsie and the Banshees), David Vanian (The Damned), Malcolm McLaren (Sex Pistols Manager), Viv Albertine (Flatmate, The Slits), Ron Watts (100 Club), Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols), Rat Scabies (The Damned), Caroline Coon (Writer and Artist), Vivienne Westwood (Sex Designer), Marco Pirroni (Adam & The Ants), John Tiberi (Sex Pistols Tour Manager), and many more of Sid’s close friends.
Featuring previously unseen archive footage and filmed in HD, this new documentary provides the most definitive and intimate life story of the punk hero who truly lived his life with chaos and anarchy. Fuelled with a soundtrack of Sid’s own music, this is the faithful telling of Sid’s life story by those who really knew him.

In addition to the DVD documentary, this special collector’s edition includes a 10 track CD of Sid live in New York’s, and a biography booklet profile by best-selling music author Mark Paytress.

He has written and directed five feature length films, directed dozens of high profile music videos, contributed recordings to multiple soundtracks, and authored several comic books.  HALLOWEEN 2 (2009) took hold of the box office recently, following-up his record breaking blockbuster re-imagining of HALLOWEEN in 2007. In 2005, Zombie assaulted the film world with the critically-acclaimed THE DEVIL’S REJECTS (Lionsgate), the follow-up to his already cult classic HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES (Lionsgate 2004).

AL JOURGENSEN’s New Collaboration With MARK THWAITE To Celebrate Memory Of PAUL RAVEN

While his prodigal step-child REVCO (REVOLTING COCKS) is out on the North American LuBriCaTouR promoting the upcoming 13th Planet release “Sex-O MiXXX-O”, MINISTRY’s Al Jourgensen has hooked up with guitarist Mark Thwaite (MISSION UK, PETER MURPHY, TRICKY, MOB RESEARCH) in the studio, collaborating on several projects simultaneously. Jourgensen and Thwaite, both long-time friends of KILLING JOKE/MINISTRY bassist Paul Raven, who passed away October 20, 2007, joined forces recently at Jourgensen’s 13th Planet compound in Texas on REVCO projects and another Jourgensen side project.

Thwaite brings his remix skills to REVCO’s upcoming “Sex-O MiXXX-O” on “Abundant Redundancy (Dambuster Metalmorphosis Mix)”, to be released as a digital-only bonus supplement to the physical release. Thwaite’s previous remix credits include GARY NUMAN, METHOD MAN and LICKY, to name a few. Additionally, Thwaite collaborated with MINISTRY/REVCO guitarist Sin Quirin on “Filthy Senoritas” for the upcoming REVCO release, slated for spring 2010.

But the crowning jewel of the Jourgensen/Thwaite collaboration is the newly penned, as-yet-untitled Christmas song, to be released via digital download exclusively this Thanksgiving. 13th Planet will release a digital stream of the track October 20, 2009 on MINISTRY’s MySpace page to celebrate the memory of their “favorite pirate” Paul Raven.

REVCO’s October 20 performance in Jacksonville, Florida will feature a video collage of Paul Raven’s life by longtime friend Dean Karr.

Jourgensen will join his band of merry freaks, REVCO, on October 6 in Chicago at House of Blues and October 17 at New York City’s Irving Plaza.

Paul and Gene Talk Smack on Former KISS Bandmates

Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons of Kiss say their 1996 reunion with Ace Frehley and Peter Criss was a disaster mired with delusion.

In an attack thinly veiled by not using their ex-bandmates’ names, frontman Stanley and bassist Simmons have criticised the band’s original guitarist and drummer in the era the band put their makeup back on and recorded the Psycho Circus album.

The reunion ended with Criss leaving in 2001 and Frehley’s contract being allowed to expire the following year. The band continued with Eric Singer on drums and Tommy Thayer on guitar despite original plans to split up.

Now Stanley tells the Detroit Free Press: “What I learned towards the end of the farewell was, I didn’t want to say farewell to Kiss – I wanted to say farewell to some of the members.

“It was magical at the beginning. But ultimately the only magic I wanted was to make certain people disappear. It had the potential to be much more than a reuinion tour but it quickly became clear it couldn’t progress.

“I think we had people who were delusional about their songwriting and musical abilities. There was an unfortunate carryover of bad habits that people had sworn they’d never do again.

“It’s strange when people come back to a band nothing but grateful, with promises they’ve learned from their mistakes – and as soon as they have money in their pocket they quickly develop amnesia.”

In a separate interview Simmons has supported his bandmate and business partner’s position. He tells the Detroit News: “Family is the most important thing? No it’s not – love, respect and discipline is the most important thing. If your father abuses the family, kick him out. Blood is thicker than water? No it’s not – self-respect, discipline and honesty are the most important things.

“Love, respect and have pride for the band you’re in. When we get up on stage that’s holy ground. No one on that stage, me or anyone else, wears the makeup and platform heels by some kind of birthright. You’ve got to earn it – and when you defile Kiss, you should be thrown out.”

GENITORTURERS KICK START THE VINYL REVOLUTION WITH THE RELEASE OF THEIR FIRST 7″ VINYL SINGLE “CUM JUNKIE”

DIGITAL RELEASE AVAILABLE ON I-TUNES TODAY

AVAILABLE IN SELECT RECORDS STORES ON SEPTEMBER 30th

Known for their shocking on stage antics, the GENITORTURERS are about to kick start the vinyl revolution by throwing themselves “in the mix” & delivering  a “lasting” impression  with the release of their first 7” Vinyl Single “CUM JUNKIE”.  While other bands maintain a safe distance with the 6ft rule,  with this new limited edition collectors release, the band went to great lengths to offer up a piece of themselves…

Each hand numbered, colored vinyl has over the top packaging and insane themed layouts, pressed on high grade “virgin” vinyl.  These will only be manufactured in limited runs.  The band is stoked to be able to offer you the first of these “CUM JUNKIE” 7” vinyls which are available now on www.genitorturers.com.  It will also be available in stores on September 30th.

Pre-orders for the vinyl offered to fan club members and email list members have been brisk, with this limited edition “batch” run including a “secret bonus” surprise & up to now, unrevealed artwork.

The band had the following to say about the forthcoming release:  “For years the music industry has siphoned, the blood sweat & creative juices from artists.  We decided that if anyone was going to OWN a piece of us it would be the fans.  In keeping with this mantra, the band is kicking off the first in a series of collectible uniquely “impregnated”, vinyl 7″’s.

”CUM JUNKIE” was listed as the pick of the week in the “Pirates Press Blog”

“This 7” by the GENITORTURERS was too awesome to pass up.  This new record comes in blood splatter, c*m splatter, AND c*m and blood splatter vinyl!!  How could you not want to pick this one up?!!”… -Pirates Press

http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendIdu46744&blogIdP8638333

The digital EP is available for purchase right now on I-Tunes.

Head mistress Gen had the following to say about the vinyl release

”We received a ton of great feedback for this song as it was on our recent “Live! In Sin” DVD & decided this had to be the first 7″ single, so we came up with a twisted little concept and put together a special photo shoot with our favorite resident photographer Dan Santoni especially for this release.”

”The A side of the 7″  includes the studio album version of “CUM JUNKIE” that is set to appear on our upcoming “Blackheart Revolution” cd,  the  B side features a totally bangin’ brand spankin’ new “Let’s Go Cum Junkie”  Gen-xx style remix by Jackal of Jackal & Hyde.”

”We will be posting up some links to the art on our very uncensored twitter page via twitpic~”
