“The Runaways” Soundtrack: Stewart and Fanning, Plus Stooges, Bowie and More

The Runaways biopic, starring Twilight’s Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning, melted the snow at its Sundance premiere and hits theaters across the U.S. on March 19th. While fans have gotten a few sneak peeks at the film via its teaser trailers, Rolling Stone now has your exclusive on what songs will feature on the film’s punk rock soundtrack. Since this is a film about the Runaways, the group’s catalog features heavily on the disc, and its track list is split between the original recordings and new versions by Fanning, who plays Cherie Currie, and Stewart, who portrays Joan Jett. Rounding out the album are 1975-era punk anthems by MC5, Nick Gilder, Sex Pistols, David Bowie and more.

That’s the soundtrack artwork up top and it’s pretty sweet, with a literal “cherry bomb” against the backdrop of a well-worn vinyl sleeve. The Runaways soundtrack will be available digitally on March 16th, with a physical release planned for March 23rd. You can pre-order both formats over on the soundtrack’s official Website. Until then, check out the entire Runaways track list below.

1. Nick Gilder – “Roxy Roller”
2. Suzi Quatro – “The Wild One”
3. MC5 – “It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World”
4. David Bowie – “Rebel Rebel”
5. Dakota Fanning – “Cherry Bomb”
6. The Runaway – “Hollywood”
7. Dakota Fanning – “California Paradise”
8. The Runaways – “You Drive Me Wild”
9. Dakota Fanning & Kristen Stewart – “Queens Of Noise”
10. Kristen Stewart & Dakota Fanning – “Dead End Justice”
11. The Stooges – “I Wanna Be Your Dog”
12. The Runaways – “I Wanna Be Where The Boys Are (Live)”
13. Sex Pistols – “Pretty Vacant”
14. Joan Jett – “Don’t Abuse Me”

‘Holy Sh*t…BATMAN!’ Batman Burlesque Brings Us Sexy Joker, Catwoman in Pasties

SOURCE: www.asylum.com

Sex Women Nightlife New York Asylum Exclusive Leave a CommentAsylum’s lifelong boyhood dreams officially came true this past weekend as our obsession with comics and weakness for tassel-twirling ladies combined during Epic Win’s Holy Sh*t … Batman! Burlesque.

Nerds and classic striptease lovers filled the aisles of the sold-out show as everyone from Harvey Dent to Harley Quinn showed up and stripped down. (We also found out that Two-Face’s disfiguring traits go below the belt as well).

Epic Win member Lefty Lucy, who performed as the Riddler, said, “When I was growing up, I was obsessed with the live-action ‘Batman’ show, and [Frank] Gorshin’s performance really struck me. All of the Epic Win girls are fans of comics. A number of us even swap comics as we find new ones we love.”

DANZIG: New Album Title Announced/To Open Fest w/ KISS

DANZIG has set “Deth Red Sabaoth” as the title of its new album, tentatively due this spring. Drummer Johnny Kelly (TYPE O NEGATIVE, SEVENTH VOID) and

Tommy Victor (PRONG, MINISTRY) will appear on most of the tracks, according to a posting on DANZIG’s official web site.

Although Johnny Kelly has been performing live with DANZIG off and on since 2002, this will mark the first time he has recorded with the band. Tommy Victor, of

course, played guitar on 2004’s “Circle Of Snakes” album.

The CD will feature a song called “Long Dark Road”, which is decribed by Glenn as “very creepy and echo-y. It’s like an old kind of ’50s-ish kind of song. I’ve been

having in my head probably for about six, seven, eight years. I haven’t gotten around to recording it, and I recorded it, so it’s pretty cool.”

In other news, DANZIG has been confirmed for this year’s KUPD U-Fest, set to take place April 24 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Night Of The Vinyl Dead recently released a limited-edition (500 copies) vinyl version of DANZIG’s 2002 album, “777 - I Luciferi”. The package contains a 12-page

photo book and screenprint by M. Fumi.

“777 - I Luciferi” was previously released on CD only through Eagle-Spitfire Records.

ALICE COOPER And ROB ZOMBIE To Team Up For North American Tour

It’s a bill that fans of horror and hard rock could only dream of until now: For the first time ever, the “gruesome twosome” — ALICE COOPER and ROB ZOMBIE — will play an exclusive limited run of North American tour dates beginning April 26 at the MTS Center in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Rob Zombie commented, “The dream or nightmare comes true! Me and The Coop have been talking about touring together for about 15 years and finally the moment is here. This will be without a doubt a rock ‘n’ roll spooktacular for all the cool ghouls.”

Alice Cooper added, “I’m looking forward to these concerts with Rob. It’s sort of like Dracula vs. Frankenstein, we’re like this generation’s classic monsters. When we’re not onstage frightening audiences, we’ll be backstage trying to scare each other.”

Tickets go on sale February 23. Exact cities and dates will be announced soon.

Rock Star: KISS TV Show Coming?

Real or Photoshop? The Metal Den has received a screen shot which is said to have been taken directly from the CBS web site advertising ‘Rock Star: KISS.’
If it’s real, the American Idol-like reality show will search for new (younger) KISS band mates so that the band can continue as a tribute act after Paul and Gene retire (and continue making them money?).

The show previously aired during the summer for two seasons on CBS. It is a bit unusual for a network for be “promoting” a summer show in February so we are a bit skeptical. However, the band have been hyping another one of their major announcements  so who knows? Of course that could just be about another tour or their latest merchandizing scheme.

PRONG To Release New Album In October

Metal Rules! Radio (formerly Metal Rules! Magazine) is a weekly metal show with new shows every Sunday. It focuses on interviews, reviews and a healthy dash of humor. All episodes are available for free on iTunes as well.

In an October 2009 interview with Target Audience, Tommy Victor stated about the songwriting process for PRONG’s next album, “The earlier batch was not like ‘Power of the Damager’ material. Just to be more general, it was more of a reach towards the ‘Rude Awakening’ or KILLING JOKE-type material. Then I came up with a couple of, like, you know, brutal thrash ideas and then some other ideas for, uh, total riff rock — like not like modern. I think they sort of go back into the ‘Cleansing’ era where it was based on GODFLESH or something and then I’ll have too see…I’ve started attacking the riffs again and seem to be in that vein of BLACK SABBATH-oriented or more than we’ve done. I think it’s gonna be cool eventually. It’s just like getting the right ideas finding out where we’re out going and like throwin’ ‘em all together and taking a look at it.”

He added, “It’s all about songs. I mean, PRONG is a songwriting band, ya know? That’s why it takes so long, because we just don’t go in and have this formula of patterns and, ya know, or just record some really heavy stuff and scream all over it; I have to figure out a lyrical concept and a lyrical line and the lyrics. And I gotta do all that and then, of course, solos and there’s a lot on me on the whole thing, unfortunately.”

PRONG is continuing to tour in support of “Power Of The Damn Mixxxer”, the remix counterpart to the band’s 2007 album “Power of The Damager”.

For a list of tour dates, go to this location.

Victor previously stated about “Power Of The Damn Mixxxer”, “We are really excited about this remix compilation of ‘Power Of The Damager’ material. We feel the LP was overlooked and in some cases ignored. But the added elements provided by the great remixers, producers, and deejays infused with all the tracks make ‘Power Of The Damn Mixxxer’ an interesting yet enjoyable listening experience.”

PRONG had two songs added to the Rock Band Music Store in May 2009 for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and for the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system. The tracks are “The Banishment” from their late 2007 release “Power of The Damager” as well as the previously unreleased track “Idealistic Types”.

The Knack lead singer Doug Fieger dies

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. – Doug Fieger, leader of the power pop band The Knack who sang on the 1979 hit “My Sharona,” died Sunday. He was 57.

Fieger, a Detroit-area native, died at his home in Woodland Hills near Los Angeles after battling cancer, according to The Knack’s manager, Jake Hooker.

Fieger formed The Knack in Los Angeles 1978, and the group quickly became a staple of Sunset Strip rock clubs. A year later he co-wrote and sang lead vocals on “My Sharona.”

Fieger said the song, with its pounding drums and exuberant vocals, was inspired by a girlfriend of four years.

“I had never met a girl like her — ever,” he told The Associated Press in a 1994 interview. “She induced madness. She was a very powerful presence. She had an insouciance that wouldn’t quit. She was very self-assured. … She also had an overpowering scent, and it drove me crazy.”

“My Sharona,” an unapologetically anthemic rock song, emerged during disco’s heyday and held the No. 1 spot on the Billboard pop chart for six weeks, becoming an FM radio standard.

It became a pop culture phenomenon, parodied by Weird Al Yankovic and others and sampled by rap group Run DMC.

In 1994, “My Sharona” re-entered the Billboard chart when it was released as a single from the soundtrack of the Ben Stiller film “Reality Bites.”

“My Sharona” gained attention again in 2005 when it was reported that George W. Bush had the song on the presidential iPod.

Their songs, about young love and teenage lust, included the hits “Good Girls Don’t,” “She’s So Selfish” and “Frustrated.”

The Knack continued to release albums and tour through the mid-2000s but they never replicated the success they enjoyed with their first two albums, “Get the Knack” and “… But the Little Girls Understand.”

Fieger battled cancer for six years. In 2006 he underwent surgery to remove two tumors from his brain.

He is survived by a sister, Beth Falkenstein, and a brother, attorney Geoffrey Fieger of Southfield, Mich., who is best known for representing assisted suicide advocate Jack Kevorkian.

A Los Angeles memorial service for friends and family is being planned.
